Takes home a top prize on Power Cash scratch-off game
John Grimes of Pasadena was “shocked” after winning a $50,000 top prize on the Power Cash scratch-off. The lucky player’s jolt of good fortune came last week when he was driving home from work.
John, an Anne Arundel County employee, stopped at Dash In #15301 in Pasadena for gas and to purchase scratch-offs. He decided on four of the $5 Power Cash instant tickets and played them in the store. One by one, the games revealed no major win until he played the very last scratch-off.
“I first saw that ‘lightning bolt,’ then the $5,000 (prize) and then the 10X multiplier,” said John, smiling. “I was like, ‘I just won $50,000!’”
A fellow player near John suggested he scan the instant ticket to be sure of the win, which had John second guessing himself. “I was pretty sure it was a winner,” he said. “But, the scanner did confirm it for me.”
The married father of three was so excited by his Lottery luck that he left money in the Lottery vending machine. He rushed home to share news of his good fortune with his family. John even called his wife on the way home and texted a picture of the winning game.
The happy winner already knew how to claim a big prize because of family members who recently went through the process. He wasted no time coming to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore late last week to take home his $50,000 windfall.
He told Lottery officials that he plans use his winnings for home improvements and to pay off some bills.
John’s purchase at Dash In #15301 also made the Lottery retailer a winner. The Anne Arundel County business located at 3900 Mountain Road earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off. The Power Cash instant ticket, which went on sale in February, still has six $50,000 top prizes remaining along with many other unclaimed prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000.
