Long-odds horses pay big return for longtime Lottery player
A regular Maryland Lottery player from Perry Hall got a surprise when he arrived home from an evening out with his wife on May 7: a $32,109 win on a Racetrax ticket.
During the evening, the couple stopped at Dan’s Cigar Lounge at 8300 Pulaski Highway in Rosedale and he bought a 10-game Racetrax ticket. The loyal player placed a Superfecta Box bet, added the Bonus multiplier and selected some relatively long-odds horses.
“When I got home and checked it, I had won,” he said on May 9 while at Lottery headquarters after claiming his prize. The Superfecta Box bet was on the 2, 7, 10 and 12 horses.
The lucky player picked a great time to play Racetrax. He bought the ticket during the first leg of the Racetrax Triple Crown ($6 for $5), which coincides with horseracing’s Triple Crown races. From May 15-21 and June 5-11, players can make a $6 Racetrax purchase to get a $1 discount. The maximum discount is $5 on any ticket valued at $30 or more.
His lucky Lottery retailer, Dan’s Cigar Lounge in Baltimore County, picks up a Lottery bonus of $321.09, equal to 1% of the prize, for selling the ticket.
