Lucky Baltimore resident takes home big bucks in popular $5 game
A Baltimore man is celebrating today after winning the last $50,000 instant top prize on the THE BIG SPIN scratch-off. Although he did not win a chance to give The Big Spin Wheel a whirl at Lottery headquarters, he was still very excited about his Lottery luck.
The big winner’s good fortune unfolded when he stopped at Selma’s Liquors in Baltimore after work. He played his midday numbers and also purchased a couple of scratch-off games. The loyal player was about to head out when he noticed a man in front of him purchasing four of the THE BIG SPIN instant tickets. He was curious and decided to purchase two of the games for himself.
Instead of scratching off the entire play area, the winner scratched the prize check area and scanned each game. He was in for a big surprise.
“The first one wasn’t a winner,” he said, smiling as he spoke to Lottery officials about his brush with good luck. “But the second one said, ‘Congratulations, $50,000 winner.’”
The married father was pleasantly shocked and asked the cashier at the store to confirm the win. The employee happily did so.
“When he told me that, I looked at him and said, ‘See you later,’” the winner recalled, chuckling. He immediately shared the great news with his wife. “He called and said, ‘You’re rich,’” said his wife, who accompanied him to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The player was not familiar with The Big Spin Wheel segment of the game and was intrigued to learn more. However, he’s still very satisfied with his $50,000 windfall. When he claimed the prize this week, the player said he hasn’t decided yet what to do with his winnings.
Also enjoying the win is Selma’s Liquors located at 4600 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore County. The store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off worth $50,000.
Meanwhile, THE BIG SPIN scratch-off is still bringing in winners. Since it went on sale in April, the instant ticket sent four people to Lottery headquarters to try their luck with The Big Spin Wheel. Those spinning the wheel can win between $50,000 and $250,000! Four more players will have the opportunity to spin the wheel when those prizes are discovered.
