Quick-Pick Ticket Gives Lottery Novice a $1 Million Mega Millions Prize

Bought ticket for July drawing at her family’s urging

It wasn’t even her idea to play, said the Montgomery County resident. The Lottery novice recalls being reluctant to try her luck but her family convinced her to buy a ticket. The legal assistant chose Mega Millions and let the terminal quick-pick the numbers for the July 19 drawing. She won a $1 million second-tier prize!

The lucky lady bought her $2 ticket at Quincy’s Bar & Grille, located at 616 Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg. Her family often visits the restaurant. After being nudged by her aunt to get a ticket, the anonymous player did so. She returned to the restaurant after the drawing to scan the ticket for a win and recalls standing there, in shock, as she processed the fact that she was a millionaire.

Although very happy about the result of her first Lottery purchase, the winner says that she probably will not play again. She thinks this is about all the luck she will ever get and it’s likely to be all the luck she’ll ever need!

The small-town resident doesn’t have plans for her winnings except to save and invest the funds. This windfall, she said, could allow her future to include law school.

Her Lottery retailer is also a winner. For selling a second-tier winning Mega Millions ticket, Quincy’s Bar & Grille collects a $2,500 Lottery bonus. Maryland has sold three $1 million winning second-tier tickets in 2024. Still unclaimed is a ticket sold in the Oct. 15 drawing by Check Cash Depot in Brooklyn Park.

Several hours remain to buy a ticket for tonight’s drawing. The estimated jackpot annuity is $229 million with an estimated cash option of $107.4 million.
