Ravens Fan Wins Big Keno Prize Using Players’ Numbers

Longtime Keno player takes home $37,515

A long time Keno player switched things up to play the jersey numbers of some former and current Baltimore Ravens players, and won $37,515 in a drawing earlier this month.

The Annapolis man wanted to change his numbers after years of playing family birthdays and important dates. Being a huge Ravens fan, he decided to play the jersey numbers of some popular players, including 52 for Ray Lewis, 75 for Jonathon Ogden and 22 for Derrick Henry. He was at his favorite spot, Broadneck Grill in Annapolis one evening when he bought a 7-spot Keno ticket for five draws with the numbers 11, 20, 22, 52, 55, 57 and 75. He watched anxiously as his numbers appeared on the screen.

“I was watching the whole time, but I first only saw six of my numbers,” the Anne Arundel County player shared with Lottery Officials when he claimed the prize. “I thought I only won $15,000 because I totally missed seeing the last number.”

The big winner said his phone was not cooperating when he tried to check his ticket, so he handed it to a friend to scan it for him. His friend told him it looked like he won $37,515.

In shock, the Keno player had the cashier run the ticket to be sure of his win. He was indeed holding a big winning ticket.

“I was so excited I bought everyone a round in the bar and tipped the bartender,” he said. “It was busy and the bartender could have easily forgot to put in my games, but he didn’t.”

The owner of a manufacturing company later shared the news with his wife who was out with friends that same night. Having just celebrated a birthday in February, his wife called his win, “a continuation of his birthday luck”.  The winner plans to share his good fortune with his wife and save the rest.

Broadneck Grill at 1364 Cape St. Clare Road in Annapolis, shares in the celebration. The Lottery retailer will receive a bonus of $375.15 for selling a winning Keno ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize won.
