Laurel man wins $50,000 on Powerball quick-pick ticket
The Laurel resident reports being a longtime Lottery player, having done so for nearly five decades. He usually plays once per week, on Thursdays, when he visits a nearby retailer to buy Multi-Match, Mega Millions and Powerball tickets. The lucky fellow recently bought a $10 quick-pick Powerball ticket at his favorite spot and came out with a $50,000 third-tier win in the May 25 drawing.
He bought the $10 ticket at Starting Gate Liquors, which is located at 3495 Laurel Fort Meade Road in Laurel. After looking at his ticket the first time to check for a win, he thought his prize was $50. That’s why he was quite surprised when the clerk leaned in and whispered to him, “I can’t cash this.” Once he learned the reason why and that he got to visit Lottery headquarters to claim his third-tier prize, the loyal player was quite happy.
Other than paying bills, he doesn’t have firm plans yet for his windfall. His big win was one of 32 third-tier Powerball prizes won in 2024. There’s still time to get tickets for tonight’s Powerball drawing to try to win the estimated jackpot annuity of $185 million. The estimated cash option is $86 million.
