Reserved Mom Quiet about $30,000 Keno Prize; Son Heralds Win

Playing Lottery games is longstanding tradition for winning family

He’s outgoing, helpful and ready to share good news with the world, but his mom is shy, reserved and likes her privacy. If he had won $30,000 playing Keno, the son might have agreed to a photo holding a giant check to appear on the Maryland Lottery website and shared his excitement in detail in a story about his big win.

However, his Gaithersburg mother won. She did share a few details about her recent bout of Lottery luck. The entire family enjoys playing Maryland Lottery games.

“It’s a family thing, so it’s what we get for Christmas and birthdays,” the son explained on Dec. 11, when he escorted his mom to Lottery headquarters to claim her prize. “We play all the time.”

His mom acknowledged the fact with a smile, and said she’s not typically a Keno player and prefers scratch-offs. But on Dec. 2, she took an interest in Keno. Not knowing the game’s intricacies, she turned to family members for suggestions.

“I say I want to do it, and they help,” she said.

Over their years of playing, the family members – there are two additional sons – have won some memorable prizes. The $30,000 Keno prize, however, is the mom’s biggest to date. She plans to make some home updates with her winnings.

The accompanying son said the $30,000 win is just a start. “You will see me back. It’s going to be the big one!” he proclaimed.

The Montgomery County winner purchased her 8-spot ticket for six drawings with the Bonus feature at a Shell gas station in Howard County. The business at 9280 All Saints Road in Laurel receives a bonus of $300, equal to 1% of the prize, for selling a winning Keno ticket of $10,000 or more. Her winning numbers were 18, 28, 29, 38, 48, 58, 59 and 78.

This is a great time of the year to play Keno. A Keno Sprinkler promotion in progress now through Dec. 29 gives Keno players the chance to double or triple their winnings up to $100,000. Check the top of your tickets for the Doubler or Tripler message. If your numbers come in, you’ll win 2X or 3X the prize.
