“Money Lady” from Rockville is a longtime Lottery player and recently won $50,000.
66-year-old veteran thinking about college funds for her three grandchildren
A Rockville resident is now $50,000 richer after she won top prize on a Show Me $50,000! scratch-off ticket.
The retired military veteran, who is calling herself “Money Lady,” made a visit to Lottery Headquarters on Aug. 3 to claim her prize and share her story.
The 66-year-old, who is legally blind, explained that she bought the ticket at Giant #319 located at 625 Hungerford Drive in Rockville. She hit a few selections, but some of the ticket slots in the machine were empty.
“I kept pushing and pushing until a ticket came out. And that ticket was the winner,” she said.
“Money Lady” said this is the first large Lottery prize she has won, but added that she has enjoyed playing Lottery games since 1979.
“I couldn’t believe that I won. I thought it was a joke at first,” she said.
“Money Lady” does not have any immediate plans for her winnings, but she does have three small grandchildren.
“I have no clue what I am going to do with the money,” she said. “It hasn’t sunk in yet, but it is never too early to put money away for my grandkids’ college.”
The Giant store in Rockville also has reason to celebrate, as it will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the lucky ticket. The Show Me $50,000! game launched in May, and four of its $50,000 top prizes remain unclaimed along with 10 $5,000 prizes and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
