Forestville man finds biggest prize of his life
They shared a few tears of joy, relief and happiness, recalled the Forestville man, who was riding home with his friend as he revealed a $100,000 50X The Cash scratch-off win.
“I’ve been trying to hit the big one,” said Kenneth Jones, who has focused his scratch-off play this year on the 50X The Cash game. He’s won many of the game’s prizes up to $500 but never came close to his goal until now. “We cried with joy, all right! When you see the prize, you can’t believe it.”
Kenneth shares a love of scratch-offs with his friend, who accompanied the winner to Lottery headquarters to claim the prize. His pal also plays draw games but Kenneth sticks to instant tickets. The nightshift retail manager and his friend regularly play the 50X The Cash game and Kenneth bought two of the $10 instant tickets for the drive home.
His friend was behind the wheel when Kenneth scratched off the winning ticket purchased at Allview Liquors in Ellicott City. He revealed a 10X symbol and then, excitedly, uncovered the $10,000 prize. The Prince George’s County winner recalls shouting “Yo!” before passing the scratch-off over to his friend to confirm the $100,000 top-prize score.
The father of six adult children shared the great news with his wife and said he plans to save most of the windfall. He also will use some of the funds to help friends and family members.
Also a winner is his Lottery retailer. For selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, Allview Liquors located at 9495 Old Annapolis Road in Howard County earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
The 50X The Cash game went on sale in January with 10 $100,000 top prizes; three remain. The game also five unclaimed $50,000 prizes, 11 remaining $10,000 prizes and others ranging from $10 to $1,000. The game is one of six members of the X the Cash scratch-off family and part of a second-chance promotion. Players can try to win $50,000 and $75,000 prizes in two upcoming drawings in June and July.
