Scratch-off Loving Grandfather Brings Home $100,000 Top Prize

“Winning Papa” of Lanham enjoys a $100,000 top-tier Money Rush win.

Money Rush game delivers win to Prince George’s County man

It was about two weeks ago when a $100,000 money rush overtook a Prince George’s County man. The Lottery player, who prefers scratch-off games, was with his daughter when good fortune came his way.

The Lanham resident visited Economy Liquors, initially to play Pick 4, and decided to also purchase some scratch-offs. Choosing to be called, “Winning Papa” to maintain his anonymity, the loyal player decided on a group of instant tickets that included a $10 Money Rush game.

“Winning Papa” said he likes higher-priced games because the prize payout is greater. Instead of scratching off the play area, he scans the game’s barcode for instant gratification. To his surprise, the Money Rush scratch-off appeared to be a big winner according to the message on the ticket checker.

“It said to see the retailer, so I knew it was big,” recalled the happy grandfather. “The cashier confirmed it to be $100,000!”

Familiar with what to do when Lottery luck comes his way, “Winning Papa” signed the back of the scratch-off. Then, he and his daughter immediately left the store.

“She’s going to say, ‘How much do I get,’” said the loyal player, laughing.

Once home, the retired mechanic made an appointment to claim his prize at Lottery headquarters. He told Lottery officials that he plans to pay bills with his winnings and save the rest, although he might also go on a vacation.

His lucky Money Rush game hit the shelves in July with nine $100,000 top prizes; five remain unclaimed. There are also six $50,000 second-tier prizes, 17 $10,000 prizes and hundreds of thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000 still available.

The Lottery retailer, Economy Liquors located at 9352 Lanham Severn Road in Prince George’s County, is also celebrating. For selling a $100,000 top-prize winning instant ticket, the Lanham store will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
