Lucky instant ticket delivers top prize
A grocery-shopping trip in Frederick County turned into an excursion to remember for an Emmitsburg couple, who won $50,000 on a Lucky instant ticket.
During the trip to Jubilee Foods, the husband claimed a $5 prize on one of his winning scratch-offs. The loyal player then visited the store’s Lottery vending machine to pick out some more games to enjoy. Although he prefers to play $10 scratch-offs, the machine was sold out of that popular price point and his eyes settled on two $5 games. “I decided to pick the first one I looked at,” he said, and that game was the $5 Lucky scratch-off.
When he returned home, the retiree said he brought in the scratch-off and “threw it on the counter and told my wife, ‘It’s yours’” as he left the room to work on his taxes. She came downstairs a bit later with the scratch-off in hand and asked, “Am I reading this right?” The astonished pair confirmed their big win and then had fun bantering about who got to the claim the game’s $50,000 top prize. Was it the one who bought it or the one who scratched it? She won that discussion and the pair claimed the prize in her name this week at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
“It’s amazing,” he said. “I never win anything. It shocked me!”
The retirees, who are parents of three and grandparents of six, plan to spend the wonderful windfall on home improvements.
Jubilee Foods also benefits from selling a top-prize winning scratch-off. The store located at 515 East Main Street in Emmitsburg receives a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
The Lucky game is still packed with prizes. Players can try to find the five remaining $50,000 top prizes along with seven $5,000 prizes and more than 630,000 prizes ranging from $1,000 to $5.
