“Busy Grand Dad” can rest a little easier than usual after winning $50,000 on the $20 $50,000 Cash scratch-off.
A Maryland Lottery player with eight grandchildren got lucky after years of playing, winning $50,000 on the $50,000 Cash game.
A self-described “low-profile person,” he is going by the name “Busy Grand Dad” to tell his tale of good fortune. The Silver Spring man said he has been trying to win for many years, and is thrilled he finally won.
“It’s the first time winning something of this magnitude,” he said with a smile while claiming his prize March 3 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
With his winnings, the Montgomery County resident plans to pay down his mortgage. He has no celebration in mind, but his grandkids figure prominently in his future. As for his plans about playing the Lottery going forward, he said he is going to “keep on trying.”
Sharing in “Busy Grand Dad’s” experience is Shoppers #2383 at 10501 Martin Luther King Jr. Highway in Bowie. The lucky retailer receives a bonus of $500 from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
The $20 $50,000 Cash game, which is in the No. 6 spot on the Lottery’s Top 40 Scratch-offs list, went on sale in December with 160 top prizes of $50,000. “Busy Grand Dad’s” win leaves 133 of those prizes yet to be claimed, along with 144 unclaimed $5,000 prizes. In addition, there are more than 950,000 prizes ranging from $20 and $500 available.
