Sometimes Pick 5 Dreams Do Come True

Prince George’s County couple win $50,000 prize

It was in December, during the festive time of the year, when a Prince George’s County woman had a magical dream about a series of numbers. A week later, she played those numbers and won a $50,000 Pick 5 prize.

An occasional Pick 5 player, she and her husband enjoy playing Lottery games together. It was the holiday season on the night she bought the lucky ticket and the couple were going to a party. They remembered the words of a family member that, when you play, you should play the same number for five days and five nights. They stopped at Zip In Mart in Oxon Hill and played the number from the wife’s dream, 99000, on a $1 straight bet in the evening Dec. 20 drawing. They also played the same number boxed for 50 cents.

“We were running late and I almost forgot to play,” she said. “But, I knew we just had to play those numbers from my dream.”

After making the purchase, the happy couple attended the party and had a grand time. They decided to check their tickets later that night and realized they had a match. The big win didn’t quite register.

“My wife showed me, but it didn’t seem real,” said the husband. “But when the Midas touch comes, hopefully, you’re on it and thankfully we were.”

The lucky grandparents visited Lottery headquarters in Baltimore last week to claim their prize. While speaking with Lottery officials, they shared that they won on their boxed ticket, too. They claimed that $5,000 prize in December. When asked what they would do with their newly claimed fortune, the couple were unsure.

“Whatever she wants,” said the husband, smiling, “but we already gave the grandkids something extra for Christmas.”

Also benefiting from their Lottery luck was Zip In Mart, located at 6801 Livingston Road in Oxon Hill. The store will receive a $500 Lottery bonus for selling a $50,000-winning Pick 5 ticket.
