Prize is a huge relief for I.T. specialist
A Southern Maryland man visited Lottery headquarters this week to claim a prize he’s been hunting for years. While he has played and enjoyed good luck with other games, Bonus Match 5 has always been his focus. The $50,015 prize he won on Sept. 6 has provided him with a huge sense of relief.
“I’m an I.T. guy, so numbers are a big thing for me,” the longtime player told Lottery officials. He selected the five-number combination that delivered his top-prize win from a handful or two of numbers that he plays frequently. “I recognized the numbers the moment I checked the results on mdlottery.com.”
The Charles County resident quickly realized his Bonus Match 5 tickets were outside in his car. The minutes it took for him to retrieve them and get back to his computer were filled with anxiety. “I knew the numbers were among those that I play, but didn’t know if the five numbers I needed were all on one ticket.”
Happily, they were. One of the nine combinations on the $6 Bonus Match 5 ticket he purchased from Lady’s Liquors in La Plata listed the winning numbers. In fact, he used enough of those same numbers in the other eight combinations to add $15 to his total. The man’s lucky retailer can be found at 6474 Crain Highway. Lady’s Liquors will receive a $500 bonus from the lottery for selling the top-prize winner.
The latest player to beat Bonus Match 5’s toughest odds will use his $50,000 prize to erase almost all of his debt. “What a relief this is,” he said. “I had a timetable in mind for finally being debt-free. I am way ahead now.”
