Special Numbers Yield $50,000 Bonus Match 5 Top Prize

Glen Burnie man claims big win in June 11 drawing

An Anne Arundel County resident is excited after winning a $50,000 top prize playing Bonus Match 5 earlier this month.

The lucky man was having a normal day when he stopped at Southgate Liquors to play some of his favorite games. Among the tickets he bought on June 11 was a $4 Bonus Match 5 ticket for the drawing later that night. The fan of the game has used his personal set of numbers for years and they finally paid off.

The Glen Burnie player bought a beverage with his games before heading home. He didn’t realize he won until the next day, when the cashier at Southgate Liquors printed out the winning numbers for him.

“The owner asked me, ‘Did I play Bonus Match 5 yesterday’ and I said, ‘Why, did someone win?’” recalled the player. “The owner said ‘Yes’ and handed me the winning numbers.”

The dedicated player went back home to check his tickets against the winning numbers on the paper. He was shocked to see his numbers matched.

“I had to wake up my cousin to show him because I didn’t believe it,” said the winner, smiling.

“I was stoked when I checked again for him,” added the cousin, who accompanied the winner to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “I’m really happy for him.”

The single father of three daughters has not shared the news with his children, but plans to save the winnings and decide later what to do with the windfall.

The retailer that sold the winning ticket, Southgate Liquors located at 314 Hospital Drive in Glen Burnie, shares in the excitement. For selling a $50,000 top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket, the retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
