Lucky mom becomes seventh player to try her luck at the wheel
A Harford County fan of THE BIG SPIN scratch-off was all smiles on Friday when she won $60,000 after trying her luck with The Big Spin Wheel at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
“I was excited and nervous but I feel very blessed,” the anonymous player said as she walked into the Lottery’s Winner’s Circle to spin the wheel. Adopting the alias “Smiley” to share the story of her Lottery experience, the player said she actually found several scratch-offs with the digital spin symbol, too. With this $5 game, players can win up to $50,000 instantly or a digital spin, which can lead to cash prizes of $10 to $250 or a trip to Lottery headquarters to try to win $50,000 to $250,000 on The Big Spin Wheel.
The lucky lady scanned the instant tickets that contained digital spins and won $50 on two occasions. “Smiley” said her third digital spin symbol led to a different result. After seeing the symbol, she scanned the THE BIG SPIN scratch-off only to have the scanner message read: “Go to Lottery!” She kept the scratch-off for two weeks before making her appointment to claim the prize, knowing she was the seventh lucky winner given a chance to win big with The Big Spin Wheel.
“Smiley” said she watched Maryland Lottery YouTube videos to see the previous spinners in action before she arrived for her appointment to spin the wheel. She was happy to meet the Lottery’s host of THE BIG SPIN videos, Mike Powell, too. Then, she took her place beside the wheel and gave it a whirl in front of a small crowd of cheering Lottery employees.
“I was trying to get a good grip on it before I spun,” she said afterward, with a smile. The Big Spin Wheel landed on $60,000. “Smiley” said she was happy with the experience and her prize, which she plans to use to pay off her car loan. The remainder of the windfall, she said, will go toward a family surprise.
“Christmas will be good for my kids,” she said.
“Smiley” is not the only one celebrating her lucky spin. Carroll Mart, located at 2906 Churchville Road in Harford County, also benefits. The Churchville retailer receives a $600 Lottery bonus for selling the scratch-off that brought “Smiley” to Lottery headquarters.
THE BIG SPIN game began on April 22 with eight prizes on The Big Spin Wheel. Seven winners have spun the wheel, leaving one more scratch-off with The Big Spin Wheel experience remaining. The instant ticket also has one more remaining $50,000 instant prize and thousands of additional instant-win prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000. In addition, there are thousands of digital spin prizes remaining with prizes of $10 to $250.
“Smiley” of Harford County is planning a big family surprise with her $60,000 in winnings from The Big Spin Wheel.
