The Week in Winners: Lottery Millionaires Minted in Baltimore, Catonsville, Clarksville, Greensboro

Players across the state won nearly $32.7 million during week ending July 23

While no one has hit the Mega Millions jackpot, which now stands at $820 million, and the billion-dollar-plus Powerball prize was won in California, the two games produced four new Maryland millionaires in the past week, one each in Baltimore, Catonsville, Clarksville and Greensboro.

The Baltimore winner hit for $4 million, and the others hit for $1 million each.

In addition, two Powerball players hit for $500,000 and $100,000 in Baltimore and Temple Hills, respectively.

Powerball has a total of nine prize tiers. Matching all five white balls without the red Powerball is good for a $1 million prize, and matching four of the five white balls plus the Powerball is good for $50,000, so it’s always worth checking those tickets, even if there’s no jackpot winner. In addition, there’s an option to participate in a second drawing by adding the $1 Double Play option to the ticket, which is what resulted in the $500,000 Baltimore prize.

Powerball drawings are conducted at 10:59 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Mega Millions also has nine prize tiers. All five balls with no Mega Ball pays $1 million (like Powerball), and a match on four of five regular balls plus the Mega Ball pays $10,000, also regardless of whether there is a jackpot winner.

Mega Millions drawings are at 11 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday.

Both Powerball and Mega Millions have a multiplier ticket add-on that costs $1 and increases the amount of non-jackpot wins by a randomly selected multiplier. In Powerball, it’s called Power Play. In Mega Millions, it’s called Megaplier.

In all, 53 tickets worth $10,000 or more were sold or redeemed in the seven days ending July 23, and the Lottery paid nearly $32.7 million in prizes during that span.

Winners of prizes larger than $25,000 must redeem their tickets at the Maryland Lottery Claims Center in Baltimore, which is open by appointment only. Prizes of up to $5,000 can be claimed at any of more than 400 Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) locations. All Maryland Lottery retailers are authorized to redeem tickets up to and including $600. More information is available on the How To Claim page of mdlottery.com.
