Southern Maryland man claims $50,000 prize on Pick 5 ticket
After winning Lottery prizes from Pick 3 and Pick 4 a few years ago, an anonymous player from Southern Maryland decided that he would try his luck with the Pick 5 game. Playing 82871 on a $1 straight ticket, he won his biggest Lottery prize to date of $50,000.
The winner bought his ticket at Commerce Liquors in Waldorf. He arrived on April 2 in time to get a ticket for the Pick 5 drawing, but instead decided to play his lucky digits in the April 3 midday drawing.
That next day, when he discovered his $50,000 prize while checking his ticket using the Maryland Lottery app, the loyal player dropped his phone in excitement. “This win couldn’t have come at a better time,” the player said. The big prize will give his finances a nice cushion of savings and allow him to pay off bills.
The happy player has a podcast and, when he’s not running video or playing Lottery games, he enjoys watching sports, particularly football.
His Charles County Lottery retailer also benefits from selling a $50,000-winning ticket. Commerce Liquors located at 11919 Business Park Drive in Waldorf will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery because of the sale.
