Adding Double Play option pays off for Laurel resident
He didn’t win the Powerball jackpot, but a $50,040 total score on three lines of a Double Play ticket was enough to put a big smile on the face of a Laurel player.
“For so many years, I have wondered what it would be like. It feels wonderful,” said the 49-year-old when he claimed the prize. The Prince George’s County resident had purchased five sets of numbers for the Nov. 13 drawing (two quick pick and three self-selected) and added the Double Play option by paying an extra $1 per set. His lucky visit was to Maple Lawn Market located at 8181 Maple Lawn Boulevard in Fulton.
While he didn’t get any special matches in the regular Powerball drawing, he had three winning experiences in the Double Play drawing. He matched four of the regular balls plus the Powerball for a $50,000 prize and won $20 on each of two separate lines.
By adding the $1 Double Play option, Powerball players have two chances to win a life-changing amount of money. The first possibility comes in the regular Powerball drawing with the chance to win a rolling jackpot. The second is in a drawing conducted about a half hour later for a standard $10 million top prize. Both drawings offer lower-tier prizes.
Players still have time to buy tickets for tonight’s Powerball and Double Play drawings. The jackpot has rolled to $190 million with a cash option of $137.3 million.
