Charlotte Mattison claims double win in Dec. 2 drawing

A lifelong dream came true for Baltimore resident Charlotte Mattison, who recently visited Maryland Lottery headquarters to claim her $100,000 Pick 5 prize. Charlotte’s journey to her big win is a story of persistence, strategy and luck.

Charlotte recalls purchasing her first scratch-off at the age of 18, winning “a few dollars” and igniting her dream that she could one day become a top-prize winner. Her persistence as a player led to her first major milestone win in 1997, when she won a $100,000 prize in a Lottery second-chance promotion. While thrilled with that experience, the city resident had her sights set on an even bigger prize.

On Dec. 2, Lottery luck came her way. She won not one, but two top prizes on her favorite game of Pick 5. She played a $1 straight bet on each ticket for the win.

Charlotte credits her success to a strategy recommended by a friend, who suggested studying past winning numbers and using them for her selections. On Dec. 2, she braved Baltimore’s cold winds to visit Parkside Liquors, located at 5110 Sinclair Lane in Baltimore. She purchased two Pick 5 tickets for the evening drawing using numbers from a previous winning drawing: 31413. Both tickets won big.

“I was shocked! I left that store with the biggest smile on my face after getting my tickets verified,” Charlotte said.

When asked about her plans for the windfall, Charlotte said she intends to pay off her home mortgage and help her sister purchase a car. As for her Lottery ambitions, she’s has a new dream. “I want to win again. I plan to keep playing, but if I win another big prize, I’ll use it to help my family or pay off my car.”

She isn’t the only one celebrating. Parkside Liquors, the retailer that sold the winning tickets, will receive a $1,000 combined Lottery bonus.
