Fort Washington resident wins twice after playing the same numbers on two tickets
A Prince George’s County Lottery player is celebrating an incredible stroke of luck after winning $100,000 from two winning Pick 5 tickets, each worth $50,000.
The anonymous winner has always favored Pick 4, a game she says has brought her multiple wins, including a $5,000 prize in the past. But recently, she decided to try her luck with Pick 5. Inspired by her past winning strategy, she turned to her car’s odometer, using the last five digits as her chosen numbers.
After purchasing her tickets, she continued with her day, not thinking much of it. Later that evening, she stopped at the 7-Eleven at 9413 Livingston Road in Fort Washington, to pick up some goods and scan her tickets. That’s when she got the shock of a lifetime.
“When I scanned my ticket, it said ‘$50,000 winner,’” she recalled. “I was shook! I ran out of the store and went straight to my car to call my dad.”
Keeping her win a secret from most, the winner describes her windfall as both “a dream and a blessing.” She plans to use the money wisely—paying off bills, paying her car off and sharing some of her winnings with her father, who has always been there for her.
Meanwhile, 7-Eleven, the lucky retailer that sold the winning tickets, will receive a $1,000 bonus, $500 for each ticket from the Maryland Lottery.
