Prize will go toward new furniture, vehicle
Winning $50,000 in the Aug. 25 Bonus Match 5 drawing left a Baltimore County man absolutely in shock.
“When I saw that I won, the hairs on my body stood up. I started to pace back and forth with excitement. I then told my wife and she couldn’t believe it, either,” he said.
The Windsor Mill resident has played the daily game once a week since moving to Maryland over 10 years ago. The 64-year-old said he won prizes of $2 and $400 on Bonus Match 5, but had never won the top prize of $50,000.
He revealed to Lottery officials that he just purchased new furniture for his house before he found out he was a winner. The plan is to pay off the furniture with his windfall and to purchase a new vehicle. The loyal player said he might add a vacation trip if any money is left over.
“We are long overdue for a vacation,” he said with a smile.
The lucky winner is a security guard and likes to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle around town for fun. He bought his $2 winning ticket at Montgomery Plaza Liquors in Catonsville.
“I have the best luck with that liquor store. That is why I keep going back,” he said.
The Baltimore County store located at 6227 Baltimore National Pike also gets to share in some of that “luck.” The store earned a bonus of $500 from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning ticket in the game.
