Jackpot growing as game makes Southern Maryland player a millionaire
Even as the Powerball jackpot approaches the half-billion-dollar mark, a Maryland winner claimed a $1 million second-tier prize on March 6 from an early February drawing.
The anonymous player purchased the winning ticket on Groundhog Day to cover the Powerball drawings of Feb. 3, 5 and 7. The Feb. 3 drawing proved hot for the new millionaire. The first five balls drawn, 9, 11, 27, 59 and 66, all matched what was on his $6 ticket. Since the Powerball was different, 5 on the ticket and 19 on the drawn ball, the jackpot continued rolling beyond the $206 million.
Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot now stands at an estimated annuity of $485 million for the March 6 drawing. Although massive, the current Powerball jackpot is running about $200 million behind an even more massive Mega Millions jackpot prize. Its estimated annuity stands at $687 million for the March 8 drawing.
The new Southern Maryland millionaire bought his winning ticket in the St. Mary’s County town of Lexington Park, at Canopy Liquors located at 21636 Great Mills Road. For selling a second-tier winning Powerball ticket, the store receives a bonus of $2,500 from the Lottery.
