“Winning Grandpop” Claims $150,000 Powerball Prize

Baltimore County resident takes home second big prize

A Woodlawn man, who has been playing the Lottery since its inception, claimed a $150,000 third-tier Powerball prize Thursday.

“Winning Grandpop” is no stranger to Lottery success. He shared that he’s been “winning for years,” including a $50,000 Powerball prize in 2023.

While he chose to remain anonymous, “Winning Grandpop” was excited to share his story. He revealed that he and his friends play jackpot games regularly for fun and entertainment, favoring games like Powerball because of the opportunity to win big.

“Jackpot games are my favorite. When I win, I tend to win more than I would on scratch-offs,” he said.

After the drawing, he scanned the ticket using the Maryland Lottery app — and was “floored” to discover he had won $150,000, proving that lightning can indeed strike twice.

His winning ticket was purchased during a routine errand run with a close friend at Woodlawn Shell at 6600 Security Blvd in Baltimore County. To win the $150,000 prize, “Winning Grandpop” matched four of the white balls, plus the Power Ball. Typically, they would be a $50,000 prize, but he added the Power Play option when purchasing the ticket. The Power Play multiplier for that drawing was x3, which gave him the $150,000 win.

“I was so happy to win”, said “Winning Grandpop”. “I’ve always said I would win again — and I’m back!”

When asked about his plans for the prize money, he said he intends to help a few close family members and save the rest.
