X Marks the $50,000 Winning Spot for Bingo Scratch-off Fan

Prince George’s County woman takes home top prize in $5 game

Bingo is her favorite game and a Prince George’s County woman couldn’t be happier that she hit it big on a Gold Bar Bingo scratch-off. The lucky lady won a $50,000 top prize playing the fourth edition of the $5 game.

Earlier this week, the Hyattsville player asked her son to pick up some bingo-themed scratch-offs for her to play. He stopped at the nearby Langley Shop and purchased an assortment of $3 and $5 bingo-themed instant tickets, came home and handed them over to his mother. She took her time to play the games and soon revealed her good fortune.

“I didn’t really see it right away,” she said. “I saw I had four corners and thought I had won $500.”

On closer inspection, the woman realized she had revealed numbers forming an “X” pattern on the sixth bingo card in the scratch-off play area. The bingo fan said she called her son to look at the game, because she still wasn’t sure whether her prize was $500 or $50,000.

“I looked at the ticket, but we both don’t see well,” said the winner’s son, laughing. He accompanied her to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters. “$500 or $50,000, either way it’s a blessing.”

To verify the win, the lucky player’s son took the instant ticket back to the Lottery retailer to have them scan the scratch-off’s prize check area. Finally, the lucky prize of $50,000 was confirmed.

“When he called to tell me, I was shocked,” said the retired housekeeper. “I’m just very grateful for this good fortune.”

When claiming her prize, the big winner shared with Lottery officials that she has yet to make plans for her windfall. “I’m still thinking about that,” she said. Also winning is the retailer that sold the lucky scratch-off. Langley Shop located at 8001 New Hampshire Avenue in Hyattsville will receive a $500 Lottery bonus for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.

The Gold Bar Bingo 4th Edition game has one $50,000 top prize remaining along with three $10,000 prizes and others ranging from $5 to $5,000. A fifth edition of the game, which carries a black background rather than a maroon background, went on sale this week with eight $50,000 top prizes and 10 $10,000 prizes.
