Young Annapolis Man Begins Adulthood with $250,000 Lottery ‘Jumpstart’

Describes top-prize scratch-off win as a ‘life-changing amount’

A casual but consistent Maryland Lottery player from Annapolis in his mid-20s got a big financial boost by winning a $250,000 top prize on the $10 $250,000 Cash Winfall scratch-off.

“This is a life-changing amount,” he said this week after claiming his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The Anne Arundel County resident characterized his prize as “a nice jumpstart” to his life.

The winner, who works in a public-facing business, said he has shared news of his big win with only a few family members and a friend who accompanied him to Lottery headquarters. He plans to keep his Lottery luck a secret. Meanwhile, he hasn’t made any decisions about the windfall. “I’m going to try to better my life,” he said.

The main reason he hasn’t given plans for the money much thought, he said, is because the whole experience didn’t become real in his mind until he was at Lottery headquarters filling out the prize claim paperwork. He plans to continue playing the Lottery from time to time, and said the experience has made it clear to him that winning is a possibility.

“It’s definitely real!” he said.

Sharing in the winner’s good fortune is Quick Mart at 900 West Street in Annapolis. The Anne Arundel County business receives a Lottery bonus of $1,000 for selling the quarter-million-dollar winning scratch-off. The $250,000 Cash Winfall game arrived in stores in February and has one more top prize remaining, along with three $10,000 prizes and others ranging from $20 to $1,000.
